1) Research: This section aims at finding and promoting new voices in international cinema, by giving great attention to experimental, independent and young films, out of the commercial circuit – documentaries, experimental and animation works, art-videos, etc, coming from all over the world, in competition and out of competition. In fact, this section includes International Film Competition and out of competition films coming from important international film festivals.
2) Multimedia art: A.RE.S. Film & Media Festival promotes original processes and products concerning the field of new media and technological innovation applied to film, visual and sound art. The Festival organizes live performances and permanent exhibitions of hybrid art works created through the “assemblage” of different elements: video, sound, computer interface, software, electronic devices, etc., representing an eclectic art that wants to turn passive watchers into active users, involving them in the mysterious process of the Art creation.
3) Identity: The ARES cultural hub also organizes a series of laboratories named “ Film and Taste Lab” aimed at highlighting the fascinating relationship existing among visual arts, cinema, food, landscape, the memory of places, the philosophy of taste.
These laboratories consist of both “culinary experiments” - pastry chefs, bakers and local chefs inviting audience to rediscover local foods and tastes - and parallel “visual journeys” – by screening documentaries and features films according to the theme.
4) Social Responsibility: ARES Festival organizes Round Tables aimed at analyzing, through an open debate and the participation of high-profile cultural actors, different issues related to social responsibility, environmental sustainability, deliberative democracy, as well as at developing shared discussions about the burning issues of contemporary society.
The goal is to bring out that cross line the Festival has been proposing since its first year, 2009: the ability to respond to the complex issues of contemporary society through the research of complex solutions that can not be left to mere operators of the political system traditionally considered. It is necessary to broaden the base of active democratic pluralism, by involving different skills in an integrated path aimed at steadily improving the quality of life.
